Needs Assessment
In order to organize a work camp, JIA District Committee setup a project team to prepare for the work camp. The project team is composed of 4-5 volunteers who has experiences of organizing work camps and are interested in organizing work camps to learn from each other.
The project team preliminary visit a village affected by leprosy and stay there 2-3 days to make needs assessment while living and doing some small works to support villagers’ life. Because JIA organizes work camps repeatedly in a same village every season, the relationship between leprosy affected villagers and volunteers is so close to understand the needs well.
The needs would be making order infrastructure such as building toilet, kitchen, paving road, fixing roof, drainage, setting up water supply, heat prevention on roof, etc., or supporting villagers’ house works such as cleaning room, collect and cut firewood, washing mosquito nets and blanket, etc., or supporting wound care for the villagers’ ulcer, and making auxiliary equipments, etc.
